Jeff Aridto - Dean's Team Listing Specialist! It’s Chicago Crosstown Classic weekend again! This part of the schedule where the two Chicago baseball teams battle was a hotly-debated topic Friday on the Score 670 AM during the Mike Murphy Afternoon Show. The topic revolved around the question: should the teams play two three-game series or would it make more sense to play one four game series with each team hosting two games?

Given the intensity of the rivalry this latter scenario might make even more sense. Instead of knowing that there are two separate series fans could gear up knowing this is the weekend for battle.

The importance for this one weekend series could be how it allows the schedule to play out for both teams and the affect it could have on their pursuit of a playoff spot. Right now the Cubs have to play a tough White Sox team while the Brewers are playing the Kansas City Royals a decisive advantage for the Brewers. I’d rather see two games float to a division rival rather than six games total in this series.

The Crosstown classic would remain just as popular and could accomplish in one weekend what the current schedule accomplishes while allowing each team to play two more meaningful games. One thing is for sure the rivalry is good for the game and the fans. That’s the way I see it anyway!
