THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – LOLLA’S BACK!

Yes, Lolla’s back!  That is Lollapalooza — a huge festival held in Grant Park.  However, if you prefer a smaller crowd than Lolla, there’s plenty of neighborhood festivals to whet your appetite!

The Old Irving Park neighborhood is hosting its 5th annual Old Irving Park Beer and BBQ Challenge at St. Viator Recreational Center (3644 N. Kedvale Ave.) on Saturday (1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.).  This showdown features 20 pit-master and local craft brewer teams presenting unique BBQ pork and craft beer pairings. Attendees then sample and vote for their favorites! That’s 40 beer samples and 20 BBQ tastings!  It’s the ultimate beer & BBQ pairing competition where you are the judge!!

The Edgewater neighborhood will become a celebration of all things North Side at their 5th annual Edge Fest at Broadway Street & Thorndale Avenue this Saturday (11:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m.) and Sunday (12:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.).  Flavorful cuisine, award-winning entertainment on two stages, and tons of family fun at the kids’ area take center stage.  But on Saturday (11:00 a.m.) at Ardmore Avenue & Broadway Street, the pet parade features four categories: best costume, best trick, smallest or biggest pet, and owner & pet look-alike contest!  This festival is a one-of-a-kind experience with its outdoor café setting!!

The Jefferson Park neighborhood will be celebrating its 18th annual Jeff Fest at Jefferson Memorial Park (4822 N. Long Ave.) on Saturday (2:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.) and Sunday (2:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.).  Plenty of food, music from cutting edge local and national acts, arts & crafts, wine tastings, and activities for the kids make for a fun-filled family weekend in one of Chicago’s coziest neighborhoods!!

Last but not least, Lollapalooza is being held in Grant Park (337 E. Randolph St.) in The Loop this weekend.  Not only does this multi-day festival feature an array of musicians including Bruno Mars, LL Cool J, Jack White, and many others, but it also features a Chow Town, a Lolla Market, an FYE Music Experience Tent, and much more!  There’s even a Kidzapalooza offering parents and kids the opportunity to catch some family fun each day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.!  This festival is not for the faint of heart!!
