THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – Celebrating the “Mother” of All Weekends!

No, it’s not the start of the summer festival season, but it’s just as important as Chicagoans celebrate moms on this “mother” of all weekends!  Make this Mother’s Day really special by spending time with your mom on Saturday and/or Sunday at one of the following events!

Missed the Cinco de Mayo celebrations last weekend?  No problem!  Get a late jump on this south-of-the-border holiday at Viva Cinco De Mayo Festival this Saturday (2:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m.) and Sunday (1:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.) at Toyota Park (7000 S. Harlem Ave.) in the Bridgeview neighborhood.  This outdoor event features live music on two stages, Mexican food and beers, arts & crafts, a huge carnival, activities for families and children, a taco eating contest, and much more!  Bring mom and enjoy a weekend full of fun!!

Take mom shopping in the Pilsen neighborhood on Halsted St. between W. 18th St. & S. Canalport Ave. at the Renegade’s Spring Craft Fair this Saturday and Sunday (11:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.).  Browse handmade crafts from established and emerging makers, discover rarities and remixes from local DJs, obtain eats from exceptional folks like Yum Dum Food Truck and 5411 Empanadas, and then complete your day with a craft cocktail!

The Madison Square Garden Company brings one of the most beloved family musicals to The Chicago Theatre (175 N. State St.) in The Loop this Saturday and Sunday (7:00 p.m.) through May 20th.  The Wizard of Oz stage production is a new, refreshed, and lavish rendition of the beloved 1939 MGM film classic!  Audiences will be dazzled by the brightly colored sets and breathtaking special effects.  It is truly a wonderful show for the whole family and a day mom will always cherish!

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure takes place at Montrose Harbor (601 W. Montrose Ave.) in the Uptown neighborhood this Sunday raising money to fight breast cancer.  This 5K race kicks off at 9:00 a.m. and takes runners along the lakeshore from Montrose to Foster Beach and back.  There’s also a pre-race survivor parade (8:30 a.m.), a post-race celebration with live music by Salt Sweat Sugar, and awards at 10:30 a.m.!  So, grab mom, lace up your running shoes, and have an unforgettable Mother’s Day for a great cause!!

Finally, we’ve got all sports moms covered this weekend as the 2016 World Series Champion Chicago Cubs Host the 2005 World Series Champion Chicago White Sox at Wrigley Field!  I wonder which moms’ team will win!!

Happy Mother’s Day!
