THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – MAKING THE BEST OF WHAT WE’VE GOT!

It’s the last weekend of April and still no signs of spring!  Maybe the month of May will bring Chicagoans what we’ve been longing for – warmer temps.  But until then, let’s make the best of what we’ve got for an enjoyable weekend!

The 3rd annual One of a Kind Spring Show returns to the Merchandise Mart (222 Merchandise Mart Plaza) in the River North neighborhood this Saturday (10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.) and Sunday (10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.).  With more than 300 talented artists and designers from across North America, shoppers will be able to meet and learn about the inspiration and technique behind the artists’ work as well as purchase their unique collections.  Your shopping experience will be like no other whether you sample goodies from the Gourmet Market, improve your own crafting skills with Lillstreet, check out the fashion shows (1:00 p.m. both days), or enjoy great food and live music from outstanding musicians!  It’s a one-of-a-kind experience you won’t want to miss!!

Back at it again – SpiN Chicago (344 N. State St.) in the River North neighborhood will host the Chicago Tequila and Sangria Festival this Saturday with two sessions (12:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. & 3:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m.).  Enjoy a myriad of tequilas, sangrias, and spirits as you treat yourself to a fun and unique experience.  Your ticket includes admission to the tasting of a variety of tequilas & sangrias, a souvenir tasting glass, 15 tasting tickets, entertainment, and more!  Other beverages and food will also be available for purchase!!

Enjoy a Saturday (5:30 p.m.-11:00 p.m.) or Sunday evening (5:30 p.m.-10:00 p.m.) seeing over 35 larger-than-life hand-made lanterns covered with hand-painted silk and illuminated by more than 1,000 twinkling LED lights at the Chinese Dragon Lights Festival held at Soldier Field (1410 S. Museum Campus Dr.) in the South Loop.  Also, two 200-foot dragons that are two stories high guard the exhibition that also includes live Chinese acrobat performances, traditional Chinese handicraft demonstrations & items for sale, and programs for folks of all ages!  In addition to lanterns and dragons, the festival’s menu includes authentic Chinese and Asian food, as well as traditional fair food.  It’s a great opportunity to explore the culture of China in a wonderland of brilliant color and culture designed to fill your senses!!

Head on over to Frontier (1072 N. Milwaukee Ave.) in the Noble Square neighborhood as they celebrate New Orleans’ Jazzfest with their own Jazzfest Crawfish Boil this Sunday with two seatings (12:00 p.m. & 4:00 p.m.).  Diners are offered all-you-can-eat crawfish, corn, and potatoes, along with additional authentic Jazzfest specials for purchase!  Seats are first come , first serve.  Live music will take place throughout the day as well.  It’s the next best thing to being in NOLA!!
