THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – SEARCHING FOR SPRING!

Yep, it’s springtime in Chicago.  You wouldn’t know it since we’re still dressed in our winter clothes!  But, despite the cold temps, this weekend is filled with a myriad of events to occupy us until we can find spring and shed winter once and for all!!

The Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo, also known as C2E2, will be held at McCormick Place, South Building (2301 S. King Dr.) in the South Loop this Saturday and Sunday.  This expo spans the latest and greatest from the worlds of comics, movies, television, toys, anime, manga, and video games.  Once again, it features top exhibitors and talent from all different realms of the pop culture universe including Charlie Cox from Daredevil, The Walking Dead’s Khary Payton and Lennie James, Justin Hartley and Milo Ventimiglia from the hit show “This is Us,” and many, many more!  Also featured is a Family HQ fully programmed with family friendly activities, a Gaming Area presented by DX Racer, and an official C2E2 store offering official C2E2 merchandise!!  You can even keep your party going all night long at one of the many unofficial after parties around town!!!

The Old Crow Smokehouse (149 W. Kinzie St.) in the River North neighborhood will be hosting a Chicago Beer Fest on Saturday (12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.)— calling all beer lovers!  Guests will enjoy samples of over 25 different beers from multiple breweries!

Enjoy an evening full of love, death, deceit, and craft cocktails on Saturday (6:30 p.m.) at Galway Arms’ (2442 N. Clark St.) Speakeasy Murder Mystery Cocktail Party in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.  Close friends and kin of a Chicago tech billionaire found murdered meet at a favorite speakeasy to put on “heirs” over cocktails.  Guests receive character descriptions and rules prior to the event and are encouraged to dress, and act, the part!  Ticket also includes 3 drinks of choice!!  You might walk away with prizes, his inheritance, or nothing at all!!!

The Swedish American Museum (5211 N. Clark St.) in the Andersonville neighborhood will be hosting a Tantalizing Treasures Sales on Saturday and Sunday (11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.).  There will be a variety of old and gently used items that have a story to tell include antiques, vintage, fine china, crystal, fur, leather, art, and much more!  You just might find your gem among these items!!

Returning to The Chop Shop & First Ward (2033 W. North Ave.) in the Wicker Park neighborhood is the 15th annual Tom Hanks Day on Saturday (12:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.).  A $10 donation to Lifeline Energy (Tom’s favorite charity) gets you in the door to enjoy movies, music, dancing, drink specials, and a very special raffle where you can win autographed Tom Hanks memorabilia!  I wonder if Wilson will be raffled off!!

Run a 10K or half-marathon to raise money for Special Olympics at Saturday’s Chi Town Half Marathon held at Montrose Harbor (600 W. Montrose Ave.) in the Uptown neighborhood.  Runners will find entertainment along the course that takes them on a winding route through the downtown neighborhoods all around the park.  Afterwards, celebrate at the finish line with a Portillo’s hot dog, beer, and live music!

Calling all taco lovers this Sunday (2:00 p.m.) to Adobe Gila’s (5455 Park Pl.) in Rosemont for their first Woof Down For Charity benefitting the Chicago Canine Rescue and Chicago Wolves Charities.  There will be separate male and female taco-eating contests, raffles, giveaways, and huge prizes for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd places.  The event will be hosted by ESPN Chicago host Carmen DeFalco and  local celebrities will be in attendance and participating!!  How many tacos can you eat?
