THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – Never A Dull Moment!

Even in October, one would be hard pressed not to find something fun to do on their weekend.  In fact, there’s never a dull moment here in Chicago, as you will soon find out!

The Sam Adams Octoberfest takes place this Saturday (2:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.) at the Petrillo Music Shell (235 S. Columbus Dr.) in The Loop.  Come and enjoy a day with plenty of food and beer options, as well as featured artists 311, Rebelution, Pepper, and City of the Sun for your entertainment pleasure.  There’s also a Hops Slide, a photo booth, lawn games, and even a Stein Hoisting (the ultimate test of beer hoisting strength)!  Come and celebrate everyone’s favorite season!!

The Old Crow Smokehouse (149 W. Kinzie St.) in the River North neighborhood will be hosting a Holiday Heroes Halloween Party this Saturday (7:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m.). It’s a Halloween celebration with your favorite 90’s throw-back music, a costume contest, a slap band decoration station, and more!  Come and have a 90’s good time while supporting The Holiday Heroes who bring joy and normalcy to hospitalized children!!

If you happen to be on the Near North Side, stop-by the Pumpkin Patch in the Hard Rock Parking Lot at 63 W. Ontario Street.  This event runs through October from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Their pumpkin patch not only contains an array of pumpkins but also gourds, Indian corn, corn stalks, and hay bales.  There’s even a Halloween shop on site featuring signature Halloween items! You can even book a private pumpkin carving party for groups of 30 or less on their patio!  And, your ticket will get you a pumpkin, a carving kit, paint, and stationed Hard Rock Café appetizers!!

This weekend’s Chicago Park District Pumpkin Patches, where you get to pick your personal favorite from a field filled with pumpkins of all shapes & sizes and partake in many Halloween-themed activities, are:

Saturday:  Shabbona Park (6935 W. Addison St.) – Dunning neighborhood (10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.); Hale Park (6258 W. 62nd St.) – Clearing neighborhood (11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.); Skinner Park (1331 W. Monroe St.) – Near West Side (11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.); Park No. 571 (pumpkin painting party) (2828 S. Eleanor St.) – West Loop.

Sunday:  Kennedy Park (11320 S. Western Ave.) – Morgan Park neighborhood (12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.); Bell Park (mini pumpkin patch) (3020 N. Oak Park Ave.) – Montclare neighborhood (1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.)

Lastly, here are three races taking place this weekend where participants will not only have a fun and energizing time but they will also be making a difference in the lives of others –

Premier Security’s 5K for Missing Children will start and finish at DuSable Harbor (150 N. Lake Shore Dr.) in The Loop this Saturday at 10:00 a.m.  This event includes a 5k Run and Walk, a Kid’s Dash, Face Painting, Bounce House, Kids IDing, Post Race Party, and other great activities for the entire family!

RBC Race for the Kids at Comer Children’s Hospital takes place on Sunday (9:00 a.m.) at the University of Chicago Campus (58th St. & University Ave.) in the Hyde Park neighborhood.  This annual event includes a 5K Run/Walk (adults & kids of all fitness levels), a Kids’ Mile (kindergarten through eighth grade), Awards and a Kids’ Dash (six years & under)!

The 2nd annual BrainUp 5K Run-Walk takes place on Sunday (8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.) at Soldier Field (1410 S. Museum Campus Dr.) in the South Loop.  This event dedicated to bringing awareness to brain cancer includes a local DJ, a Kids’ Fun Run, face painting, balloons, food & drinks and an awards ceremony!
