THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – The Transition Begins!

The calendar may say it’s still summer, but the temps outside say differently.  So, it’s time to face reality as Chicagoans begin their transition to the fall season this post-Labor Day weekend!

Celebrate German culture in the Lincoln Square neighborhood this Saturday (11:45 a.m.-11:00 p.m.) and Sunday (11:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m.) as the German American Fest returns to Lincoln and Leland Avenues (4700 N. Lincoln Ave.).  Once again, good authentic German food, traditional drinks, dancing to the music of German bands, plenty of other entertainment, and of course, German Gemutlichkeit will provide enjoyment for you and your friends at this fabulous festival!  And, the 52nd Von Steuben Parade takes place Saturday (2:00 p.m.), kicking off at Lincoln Avenue and Irving Park Road heading north to Eastwood Avenue, west to Western Avenue, then north to Lawrence Avenue!!

Please welcome Chicago’s newest street happening, Beer, Bourbon and BBQ Fest, to the Roscoe Village neighborhood (Damen & Roscoe Streets) this Saturday and Sunday (12:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.).  Expect plenty of mouth-watering, saucy meats (ribs, chicken & more) along with barrel-aged Southern bourbon whiskeys showcased at ticketed afternoon tastings.  Two stages of rockin’ music (country flair & top local tribute bands) and arts and crafts activities for the kids round out this new Chicago fest!  There’s no better way to send off summer than slathered in BBQ sauce!!

Celebrate the kickoff to the 2017 Chicago Bears season this Saturday (12:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.) at the 2017 Miller Lite Chicago Bears Block Party in the Logan Square neighborhood at Milwaukee and Kedzie Avenues.  Enjoy tailgating food, cold drinks, a Beer Bloody Mary Bar, live music, games, giveaways, prizes and more.  A special kids’ area will be available from 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. featuring a face painter, a balloon artist, a glitter tattoo artist and a giant Lego activation.  For the adults, SPIN Chicago will provide 4 tables for all sorts of ping pong games.  Best of all, admission is free for the most epic tailgate in the NFL!!

Celebrate Mexican independence from Spanish rule in the September of 1810 and Mexican culture at the 28th annual Fiestas Patrias – Festival de La Villita in the Little Village neighborhood at 26th Street and Kostner Avenue this Saturday and Sunday (2:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m.).  This fest offers something for everyone with more than 100 vendors, including neighborhood restaurants, top local and regional music entertainment, kids’ activities, carnival rides and more!  In addition, Sunday afternoon brings the neighborhood’s popular annual 26th Street Mexican Independence Day Parade which ends at the fest so you can continue celebrating!!

Chicago’s Movies in the Park for this Saturday is “Trolls” at Hermitage Park (5839 S. Wood St.) in the Englewood neighborhood.

Finally, for all you sports enthusiasts out there, there’s no shortage of home games this weekend as the Chicago Cubs host the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday and Sunday at Wrigley Field; the Chicago White Sox host the San Francisco Giants on Saturday and Sunday at Guaranteed Rate Field; and the Chicago Bears host the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday at Soldier Field for their first game of the new football season!
