THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – Could Summer Be Winding Down?

Isn’t it fitting that as we welcome the month of August (which by the way is still summer), cool temps arrive?  What’s even more fitting is that football season kicks-off next month!  Well, summer may be winding down but not here in Chicago!

Opening their house to everyone this year, the Chicago Bears Meijer Family Fest takes place this Saturday at Soldier Field (1410 S. Museum Campus Dr.) in the South Loop.  Enjoy a team scrimmage, tons of fun activities, and more. Activities outside the stadium begin at 11:00 a.m., gates open at 1:00 p.m. and team introductions/practice start at 3:00 p.m.  Plus, new this year, kids get to run on the field after practice!  Other festivities include Staley Da Bear, alumni autographs, interactive games, inflatables, face painting and more!!  It’s just a fun day for the whole family!!!

Chicago’s historic Edgewater neighborhood will become a celebration of all things North Side at this year’s EdgeFest, located at Broadway Street and Thorndale Avenue (5900 N. Broadway St.) this Saturday (12:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.) and Sunday (12:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.).  With an outdoor café setting, EdgeFest will feature flavorful cuisine, award-winning entertainment with local musicians, vendors showcasing all this neighborhood has to offer, and of course, plenty of family fun!  And, they’re even including dogs with a Pet Parade at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday!!  Don’t miss this party – there’s definitely something for everyone!!!

Spanning two blocks of Jarvis Avenue between Greenview and Ashland Avenues in the Rogers Park neighborhood, Rogers Pork BBQ, Arts And Music returns for its 4th year this Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  With over 40 artists and food vendors serving up scrumptious food like saucy BBQ from R Public House and vegetarian options from the Amazing Kale Burger and more, you’ll have a fun and fantastic time at this summer street fest!

The ultimate Beer & BBQ pairing competition (where you’re the judge!) returns to the Old Irving Park neighborhood (3644 N. Kedvale Ave.) this Saturday (1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.) with the Old Irving Park Beer & BBQ Showdown.  Now in its 4th year, this showdown features 20 pit-master and local craft brewer teams vying for the Best BBQ Pork, Best Beer, and Best BBQ and Beer Pairing title!  And, not only will you be judging, but this year teams will be competing for votes from Celebrity Chef Judges such as Barry Sorkin of Smoque BBQ, Chef Kevin Corsello from Pork & Mindy’s and others!!

The Jefferson Park neighborhood will be celebrating with plenty of community spirit at their 18th annual Jeff Fest Arts and Music Festival this Saturday (2:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.) and Sunday (2:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.) at Jefferson Memorial Park (4822 N. Long Ave.).  This festival features plenty of tasty food, arts & crafts and a Kids’ Zone (2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. both days) that includes bounce houses, pony rides, face painting and more!  Fest highlights include both a “community” entertainment stage and a music stage that includes Chicago natives The Buckinghams!!
