Restaurant Review – DMK Burger Bar

Choosing a restaurant in Chicago can be an onerous task. With so many amazing places to choose from, how do you ever settle on a spot? I’ve taken to the recommendations of natives. Don’t get me wrong, I love going out and searching for my new favorite place to chow down. But, asking a local is a surefire way to make sure your dinner will be delicious. This week took me to DMK Burger Bar in Lakeview. I love going to a restaurant with a big group and seeing what everyone orders (and sneaking bites!). A couple in our group started with the Iceberg Wedge salad. This was a generous wedge of lettuce topped with tomato, cucumber, bacon, scallion, egg, and house-made blue cheese dressing. The veggies were fresh and crunchy and the portion was perfect for a pre-burger appetizer. DMK offers lots of ways to customize your burger. You can sub out a turkey, bison, or veggie patty. You can also change out the bun for a lettuce wrap or a Portobello mushroom bun. I decided on the salmon burger: a juicy salmon filet, ginger, Thai curry aioli, and Asian slaw on a lettuce wrap. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the aioli was deliciously creamy and spicy. The Asian slaw was a cool, crisp complement as well. My friend ordered the #4 burger (as a double for just $4 extra) topped with roasted hatch green chiles, a fried egg, Sonoma jack cheese, and smoked bacon. Although I didn’t actually taste this one, he said this is one of his favorite burgers.

DMK has a generous number of tables, although I can see how it would get busy on the weekends. It is a large open space and was a titch noisy during dinner, so it can be a bit challenging with larger groups. There are 5 locations in the Chicago area: Lakeview, Lombard, Soldier Field, Navy Pier, and Oakbrook Center. Hours at the Lakeview location are Mondays through Thursdays from 11:30 am to 11 pm, Fridays through Sundays from 11:30 am to 12 am. For more information about other locations, check out their website.
