Today is Veterans Day. Let us commemorate with pride and dignity the men and women who have served our nation’s Armed Forces. Whether  or not you support our government’s ideologies for its military purposes, it is undeniable that the Americans who have chosen to give their lives, time and energies to serve and protect deserve the tribute. The City of Chicago’s official Veterans Day Ceremony begins at 12:00 noon today, Friday 11/11, at Soldier Field, Gate 0 (1410 Museum Campus Dr.) Parking is free at the 18th Street exit off Lake Shore Drive. Please dress in business attire or service dress uniform for attendance.

GOLD COAST

The Chicago History Museum (1601 N. Clark St.) has a full morning of Veterans Day activities scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. that includes kids’ craft activities throughout, presentations of documentaries and artifacts,  speakers and performance art. The family-friendly program is free for Chicago History Museum members, veterans, and active duty military personnel and their families. ID is required. Otherwise the events are included with Museum admission.

EVANSTON

Evanston’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Fountain Square on Davis Street between Sherman and Orrington Avenues. Assembly begins at 10:00 a.m. and the ceremony will include speeches from representatives of Evanston American Legion Post 42 and VFW Post 7186.

NORWOOD PARK

Veterans and Active-Duty Military Personnel are invited for a free meal at Superdawg (6363 N. Milwaukee Ave.) today. Customers are asked to identify themselves to the cashier or carhop for a free SuperSandwich and large soft drink. Hours of operation are from 11:00 a.m. through 2:00 a.m.

LINCOLN PARK

As a heads up for an upcoming event, now would be a great time to become a member of the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce if you aren’t already to learn more about Building Your Brand with Chef Robert Irvine. This free event for LPCC members takes place at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, 11/8, at Studio XFINITY (901 W. Weed St.). Robert Irvine is the muscle-bound English celebrity chef/restaurateur/entrepreneur/TV personality best known for various programs on Food Network including Season 4 of The Next Iron Chef, Dinner: Impossible, and Restaurant: Impossible. Breakfast will be provided by Vanille Patisserie and there will be allotted time for audience questions after his keynote presentation. RSVP ASAP as spots are limited.
