THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – LOLLA’S BACK IN TOWN!

Well well well look whose back in town this weekend! That’s right it’s Lolla!!

Lollapalooza 2011 is a three-day music festival of about 130 bands held at Grant Park (500 S. Columbus Drive) in the Grant Park Museums neighborhood. However it’s all SOLD OUT!

For those not lucky enough to have a ticket there are alternatives to still experience this event either remotely on YouTube or downloading free apps for your iPhone or Android phones.

Those who have tickets on the other hand are in store for a real treat not only with the musical talent line-up but also as you go from stage to stage take a break and stop by the many havens set-up throughout Grant Park by the festival sponsors. Also Chow Town has over 30 vendors on hand for your dining pleasure and Kidzapalooza (“free” admission for children 10 and under) provides workshops activities and music all day long from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for those who bring their kids to make this a family experience!

Needless to say Lolla’s not the only event in town this weekend. There’s more –

Retro on Roscoe is an annual fest held on Roscoe Street from Damen to Oakley Avenues in the Roscoe Village neighborhood. Food and merch vendors an antique car show kids’ activities and three stages of live music will be featured this Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.!

Festival Cubano is an annual celebration of Cuban culture held at Riis Park (6100 W. Fullerton Avenue) in the Belmont Cragin/Hermosa neighborhood. Food vendors carnival games arts and crafts cooking demos domino tournaments percussion and Zumba workshops and live music will be featured this Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.!

Serb Fest is an annual outdoor cultural fete now in its 20th year and is held at the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral (5701 N. Redwood Drive). Serbian cuisine & music vendors guided church tours and kids’ activities will be featured this Saturday (12:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m.) and Sunday (12:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.)!

The Crafters Round-Up features about 75 artists displaying their crafts from jewelry paintings prints silkscreened cards textiles and more at Chase Park (4701 N. Ashland Avenue) in the Ravenswood neighborhood this Saturday and Sunday!

Treat your kids or even the kid in you to Movies in the Parks: Jonquil Park located at 1023 W. Wrightwood Avenue in the Sheffield/De Paul neighborhood this Saturday as “Pokemon Heroes” will be featured under the stars. Movie starts at dusk so grab some blankets kick-back and enjoy!

For those who need something more challenging Terror in the Aisles 8 takes place this Saturday from 7:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. (doors open at 7:00 p.m.) at the Portage Theater (4050 N. Milwaukee Avenue) in the Portage Park neighborhood. This horror film triple feature includes “Sleepaway Camp” (8:00 p.m.) “Tucker & Dale vs. Evil” (10:00 p.m.) and “City of the Walking Dead” (12:00 a.m.) along with vendor tables free autograph sessions giveaways a charity auction for Vital Bridges and much more!

Then in honor of National Sisters Day on Sunday the Music Box Theatre (3733 N. Southport Avenue) in the Lakeview neighborhood brings you Camp Midnight Presents ‘Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?’ This classic chiller flick of two sisters Joan Crawford and Bette Davis includes pre-show entertainment by Camp Midnight Productions with an interactive audience guide to the film live commentary and even a “sisters’ matching outfit” parade and contest all starting at 2:00 p.m.!
