Spring is definitely in the air! Time to get rid of what’s left from old man winter and do a little "spring cleaning" – outdoors!
With Earth Day falling on a weekday Thursday April 22nd the City of Chicago as well as many of its surrounding suburban communities will be hosting family fun Earth Day celebrations this weekend. A few to consider are –
Earth Day Celebrations hosted by the Chicago Park District will be taking place at the following Chicago area parks this Saturday: Eckhart Park (1330 W. Chicago Avenue) Humboldt Park (1400 N. Sacramento Avenue) Loyola Park (1230 W. Greenleaf Avenue) Piotrowski Park (4247 W 31st Street) and Union Park (1501 W. Randolph Street).

Earth Day Celebration at Lincoln Park Zoo located at 2200 N. Cannon Drive. Join ChicaGO Green to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. Not only will this free event have information for everyone about carbon footprints and solar power but also fun activities for the kids. North Lake Shore Community Earth Day Celebration located at 1050 W. Sheridan Road. Guest speakers and displays will be on hand this Saturday to educate the community about environmental problems and solutions while highlighting local businesses and organizations. Chicago’s Irish American Heritage Center (4626 N. Knox Avenue) will be hosting Green Family Festival for families seeking healthy natural ways to raise their children and positively impact their communities and the planet. Earth Day at the Air Station Prairie located in Glenview at 2400 Compass Road. Learn about sustainable living and why the Tyner Center is a LEED platinum building! Earth Day Celebration in Park Ridge located at 529 Forestview. This community Earth Day celebration will feature live music games prizes animal shows family hikes and much much more. Word has it that Smokey the Bear may even make an appearance. Click here for more information.
Or there’s Springtime on the Farm located in Schaumburg. This annual event represents Heritage Farm’s spring season "home opener" at Spring Valley’s Heritage Farm (201 S. Plum Grove Road). Experience a rural German farm community just as it was in the 1880’s. Many of the hands-on activities revolve around the concept of "spring cleaning" which was an important reality in the 19th century. Food and beverages are available for purchase. Finally for those who prefer something a little less hands-on the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe will be hosting their 10th annual Antiques and Garden Fair with over 100 dealers exhibiting their garden antiques and specialty products from around the world.
