SOME EARLY FALL GARDENING TIPS FROM KATHY!
Fall is a great time to “Spring clean”. Before winter comes and our homes are all closed up freshen up and straighten up. Don’t try to tackle everything at once. I try to do one room at a time. First thing get rid of all the stuff that you don’t need or use anymore. The best rule is if you haven’t used or worn it in a year get rid of it! Just going through your closets can take a whole afternoon but it’s so worth it. Give the discards to charity. Sometimes it’s hard to decide what to toss. Keep a maybe box on the side if you simply can’t make up your mind. After decluttering it time to clean. Wash walls with Murphey’s oil soap. Wash window treatments and windows. I know that you always hear about using vinegar and crumpled newspapers on windows. I prefer good old windex and paper towels it works the best for me. Buy a plastic caddy with a handle this can hold all your cleaning supplies. You can carry it from room to room. Cleaning vertical blinds is always a chore. I take mine outside. Hang them on the fence spray them with all purpose cleaner (fantastik 409) and hose them off.
This is also a good time to make sure the Winter Equipment is in good working condition. Get fresh gas for the snow blower. Check your owner’s manual for the correct gas to oil mix. Start the blower and let it run for a few minutes. I know snow is the furthest thing from your mind right now. But if your blower won’t start the repair guy will have it fixed for you quickly. If you wait till the first snow you might wait weeks. The same goes for your furnace. Get it cleaned and checked now and be ready for the first winter chill.
