THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – It’s All About Moms!

It’s all about Moms this weekend as Chicago celebrates Mother’s Day by offering a variety of events and activities with a wide range of options to choose from to suit every Mom! In fact, here are some of those key events.
Celebrate mothers of all kinds at The Trashy Mother Earth Market this Saturday (11 a.m.-4 p.m.) at Gallagher Way (3635 N. Clark St.) in the Wrigleyville neighborhood. This junky jamboree features mother-junking artisans who transform materials into one-of-a-kind wonders so the world is a more joyful place. Also, not only can you shop for upcycled goods and oddball stuff, but you can also drop off household supplies to the artisans for future creative projects – view requested materials list. Plus, Gallagher Way will provide food, beverages, and live music to add even more enjoyment to the day!
If Mom happens to be a big supporter of small businesses, then the SAUCED Spring Night Market is where you need to take her. This night market takes place on Saturday (5 p.m.-10 p.m.) at the Half Acre Beer Co. (2050 W. Balmoral Ave.) in the Lincoln Square neighborhood. Shop from dozens of local artists and makers who will be featuring everything from one-of-a-kind ceramics to screen prints to small-batch hot sauce to vintage home goods, and more. When you need a break from shopping, grab some delicious food from Soul & Smoke, 5411 Empanadas, and Bumbu Roux along with some brews as well as enjoying tunes from DJ Johnny Walker as you recharge for more shopping!
If Mom is a big lover of the summer season, then Chicago’s official kickoff to summer is where she needs to be! The 11th annual Switch on Summer takes place this Saturday (11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.) at Grant Park’s Buckingham Fountain (301 S. Columbus Dr.) in The Loop. Enjoy a free, family-friendly event featuring live music, cultural performances, interactive activities for all ages, and of course, the ceremony itself where the Fountain is turned on to mark the start of summer. In addition, the Chicago Park District’s Night Out in the Parks series will offer a preview of free cultural events happening citywide this summer. Time to celebrate the warmer days ahead!
Enjoy a day of celebrating Mom on one of the various Mother’s Day Cruises departing from Navy Pier (600 E. Grand Ave.) in the Streeterville neighborhood this Sunday. These cruises offer either brunch or dinner on Lake Michigan or the Chicago River along with scenic views of the city, live entertainment, and festive activities. Please see website for times, prices, menus, and other details. It’s a great way to celebrate Mom and give her a day off from cooking!
Perhaps Mom prefers being on solid ground! Well, there’s always the Mother’s Day Brunch at Marisol this Sunday (10 a.m.-2:30 p.m.) at the Museum of Contemporary Art (205 E. Pearson St.) in the Streeterville neighborhood. Marisol has crafted a thoughtfully special prix-fixe menu for $45 which includes a Mother’s Day cocktail and admission to the MCA to make Mom’s Day an unforgettable one. Plus, there’s even a specially curated kids’ menu!
