This first weekend of October kicks off the Fall Festival Season here in Chicago. It’s a time of celebrating all things Fall such as cooler temps, football, wine, beer, apples, and endless Oktoberfests!
Gallagher Way (3637 N. Clark St.) in the Wrigleyville neighborhood is hosting a Harvest Hangout this Saturday (11 a.m.-9 p.m.) and Sunday (11 a.m.-7 p.m.) for a weekend of Fall fun. This family-friendly event features college and NFL football games on its video board, live music, carnival games, lawn games, a petting zoo, an inflatable corn maze, and more. Plus, themed food and drinks are available for purchase. Time to get your Fall season in gear!
Nothing could be more Fall than an apple-filled weekend! Usher in the Fall Season at the 37th annual Lincoln Square Ravenswood Apple Fest this Saturday and Sunday (9 a.m.-6 p.m.) on Lincoln Avenue between Lawrence and Sunnyside Avenues in the Lincoln Square neighborhood. This annual Fall season street festival features a marketplace to stock up on Fall essentials; local musicians performing all weekend long; plenty of seasonal activities for everyone in the family at the Kids Zone; apple-stuffed tamales and apple doughnuts from local restaurants as well as apple cider, apple-flavored beer, and much more. Enjoy and celebrate Chicago’s Fall season with the whole family at this Apple Fest!
Celebrate German culture and traditions at St. Benedict’s Oktoberfest this Saturday (1 p.m.-10 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.-7 p.m.) at St. Ben’s Parish (2215 W. Irving Park Rd.) in the North Center neighborhood. This family-friendly festival offers a taste of Germany by featuring traditional German food and beer, live music, cultural performances, and more. In addition, Saturday’s events include a German Costume Contest (2:30 p.m.) and a Pretzel Eating Contest (6:30 p.m.) while Sunday’s event is a Yodeling Contest (3 p.m.). It’s a lively and vibrant event that captures the spirit of Oktoberfest season!
Celebrating the glorious grape for its 8th year is the Lincoln Park Wine Festival at Jonquil Park (1001 W. Wrightwood Ave.) in the Lincoln Park neighborhood this Saturday (11 a.m.-10 p.m.) and Sunday (11 a.m.-7 p.m.). This open-air market of wine and food pavilions will have sommeliers and brand ambassadors on hand to coach you through a two-hour tasting session where scores of varietals will be showcased. A General Admission ticket comes with a sample of 12 varietals of wine and a commemorative tasting glass, while a VIP ticket includes an expanded tasting of five additional specialty wines to taste. Plus, live music performances will keep you entertained as you sip and taste the time away!
This Fall season weekend wouldn’t be complete without the annual Chicago Beer Festival this Saturday (7 p.m.-11 p.m.) taking over the Field Museum (1400 S. Lake Shore Dr.) in the South Loop. Over 65 breweries will be featuring a sampling of their Fall Seasonal Beers, plus music, food, and a select number of museum exhibits will be open for the attendees to view. General Admission is from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. while Early Admission is from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. which also includes specialty beers for the first hour. While admission includes beer samples, food will be sold separately, and tickets will not be sold at the door.
