THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – TIME TO BE ENTERTAINED!

Are you stuck on autopilot? Do you cook the same dinners each night and watch the same Netflix shows over and over? Well, the weekend is upon us and it’s time to be entertained!

How about hosting an International Dinner Night? As a family, choose a country you would like to learn more about and are interested in. Find cuisine that is unique to that country and prepare it for dinner. The family can even find clothing worn in that country and wear it to dinner. Then have each family member bring one fact about the country to share at dinner time. Plan for an evening of creative learning time while enjoying some great recipes from another country!

How about having a Karaoke Night? Karaoke is a type of interactive dining entertainment or video game developed in Japan in which an amateur singer sings along with recorded music (a music video) using a microphone. Everyone loves to sing, even those of us who might not have a singing voice! This is a great way to spend family time together with lots of laughter and joy throughout the evening!!

How about a Backyard BBQ? With the weather warming up a bit, there’s no reason the family can’t take it outdoors to their backyard for some fresh air, a good ‘ole BBQ and some fun. And, when the sun goes down, have a campfire, make s’mores and tell scary stories! It’s always enjoyable to have a barbeque!!

For those who have kids, here are a few fun virtual activities you can enjoy with them:

VEXPO – Virtual Lego Expo takes place this Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This Virtual Lego Con features Lego artists and engineers showing their creations via Zoom meeting rooms. Viewers can also visit vendors to browse and purchase a variety of products and ask questions of participating professional builders. Viewers can even join different display rooms, which include the Jurassic Roller Coaster, a large amusement park with moving rides, some massive spaceships, a giant transparent castle, and the land of elves and dragons known as Elvendale. Plus, families are encouraged to come to the computer with their creations for feedback and encouragement!

Watson Adventures’ Virtual Trivia Slam Game for Families takes place Saturday (10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. & 12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m.) and Sunday (12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m.). Round up the family and challenge them for a live virtual trivia game that’ll have everyone laughing. The questions for kids cover a range of topics such as cartoon characters, snack foods, board games, famous places, songs, and famous moments in history. And to get you out of your seat, there’s even a photo scavenger hunt round. This game is for ages 10 and up and is $45 for up to 6 players. Ready to play?

Virtual ComedySportz takes place Saturday (7:30 p.m. & 9:30 p.m.). This is an all-ages improv competition. Two teams are battling each other for your love and points by receiving suggestions from you and making it all up as they go along! There’s even a Ref presiding over the competition, and by the end of the night, one thing for sure will win – comedy!!
