TECHNOLOGY TIPS – ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS PAUSE

With how life works these days we are increasingly influenced by the use of our smart phones. I use mine as a calendar phone email search engine fitness tracker and even an alarm clock. With every chime I hear it’s like a Pavlovian response and I pick up the phone.

Enter PAUSE a relaxation app to help you tune out the noise of your technology. According to its description in the app store in iTunes "based on the ancient principles of Tai Chi and mindfulness practice PAUSE brings the act of focused attention to your mobile device. By slowly and continuously moving your fingertip across the screen PAUSE triggers the body’s ‘rest and digest’ response quickly helping you regain focus and release stress within minutes."

The premise of the app is actually quite simple which is exactly what the designers were attempting to achieve. When you open the application you follow a small blob at the pace at which it is moving. The more time you spend the larger your blob becomes eventually covering the entire screen. Once you’ve covered the the screen the app suggests you close your eyes and feel the calm. Once your time is up you’ll hear a chime to help bring you back to the moment. Now that you’ve taken this pause you can carry on with your day.
