Restaurant Review – Horse Thief Hollow

This weekend took me just outside of the city to Beverly! I was attending the Beverly Art Walk and needed to grab a bite to eat. My friends and I passed a charming brewery called Horse Thief Hollow and knew we’d found our spot. The atmosphere is immediately warm and welcoming. There’s a long bar on the righthand side of the restaurant, dark wooden tables, and industrial lighting fixtures. There was also an acoustic guitar duo playing live music! The lunch menu is served from 11:30 am to 5 pm and has an expansive selection. I chose the Thai Steak Salad: grilled hanger steak on a bed of mixed greens, topped with Napa cabbage, shaved rainbow carrots, Asian pears, roasted peanuts, scallions, blistered Shisito peppers, and a sweet and spicy red chili vinaigrette. This was fantastic! The steak was perfectly cooked and all of the veggies were fresh and crisp. I especially loved the Shisito peppers; they had a beautiful smoky flavor. The vinaigrette was very good as well! My friend ordered the Pulled Pork Nachos: slow smoked pork, poblano queso, fresh corn tortilla chips, black beans, avocado, tomato, corn, and cilantro. The bite I had of these was wonderful! The queso was very good and the pork was melt in your mouth tender. One of my other friends chose the Chorizo Poutine: spicy chorizo over hand cut fries with Amish white cheese curds, chorizo gravy, scallions, jalapeños, and a sunny side up egg. No surprise- this was delicious too! I’ve never had chorizo in poutine before; such a unique combination. The fresh jalapeños gave the dish a lovely snap! Finally, my other friend ordered the Southern Chicken Sandwich: breaded chicken breast, buttermilk slaw, Sriracha bourbon maple jam, bread and butter pickles, all on a toasted brioche bun. She opted to skip the bun and have it served on lettuce, with a side of fries. The buttermilk slaw was my favorite part! It had just the right amount of tang. The French fries were perfectly crispy- delicious dunked in ranch. I will absolutely be back to try more menu items here!
