THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – Sending Off Another Summer!

Whether we like it or not, autumn officially begins this coming Monday.  However, that leaves us one final weekend to send off another summer in grand style and begin embracing fall!!

Join Goose Island Brewery on Fulton Street (1800 W.) on the Near West Side for their annual 312 Block Party this Saturday.  This end-of-summer bash brings together food truck fare, plenty of beer (for just $3 a pop), and a stacked lineup of live music.  Main entrance is at Fulton Street and Wolcott Avenue — and your $10 donation at the gate supports local charities!  With so much great music and cheap beer on tap, rumor has it this event fills up quickly (before the headliner takes the stage) so plan on arriving early!!

Back for its seventh flavor-filled year, the Sam Adams’ Lakeview Taco Fest takes place in the bustling Southport Corridor (on Southport Avenue between Addison & Roscoe Streets) this Saturday and Sunday.  Once again, the glorious taco takes the spotlight featuring traditional and gourmet tacos from more than a dozen restaurants.  Beyond tacos there are two music stages, special beer and taco pairings, crowd-pleasing lucha libra (Mexican wrestling), activities for kids, and visitors can text vote for Chicago’s “Best Taco!”  Last year’s recipient was D.S. Tequila.  This is not only a celebration of seasonal beers but also the start of autumn!!

Capping off the 17th annual Andersonville Arts Week is the “new” Andersonville Arts Fest at West Winona Street and North Clark Street this Saturday and Sunday.  It’s a celebration of artist receptions, exhibits, and displays at over 70 businesses featuring the work of 100 juried artists.  In addition to the incredible artwork, this festival features live music, activities for the kids, and great on-site food offerings from neighboring restaurants!  Guests are guaranteed a day full of art, culture, and fun in this Swedish community!!

The Norwood Park neighborhood welcomes families to their largest event, Norwood Park Fall Festival, this Friday and Saturday on the 6100 block of Northwest Highway between Raven Street and Sayre Avenue.  Live entertainment consists of rock, country, and blues music from all eras. This year’s headliner is none other than Wedding Banned.  Besides great music, this event has many other attractions such as food trucks from the Chicagoland area; quality beer; at least 35 merchandise booths offering both local goods and services; and a children’s area with inflatables, face painting, live entertainment, games, and activities!  It’s a family-oriented fest by day and a music festival by night with plenty of fun for all ages!!

Come run through a delicious candy land at this Saturday’s Candy Dash 5k and Kids Dash held at Lincoln Park’s running paths (1650 N. Stockton Dr.) in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.  The 5k begins at 8:00 a.m., with the Kids Run at 9:30 a.m.  Kids Dash participants receive a race shirt, medal, bib, and lots of candy. The 5k participants receive a Candy Dash shirt, a candy-themed 5k finisher medal, and delicious candy throughout the course and at the finish line!  It’s the most mouthwatering and deliciously fun 5k in Chicago you’ll ever experience!!

For that true fall experience, join Lambs Farm (14245 W. Rockland Rd.) in Libertyville for their 3rd annual Fall on the Farm this Saturday and Sunday.  Guests can explore the farmyard and attractions, partake in crafts, browse the Community Tent Sale, go for a spin on the barrel train ride as well as enjoy food, music, and entertainment.  There’s also plenty of fall activities including cookie decorating, “touch a tractor”, a cow milking game, pumpkin painting, an eyeball bounce game, pumpkin bowling, face painting, tattoos, and so much more!  It’s simply a full day of fun for everyone!!
