THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – Air, Water, or Land – It’s Your Choice!

With some kids going back to school next week, is summer over??  Not just yet- as the city has lined up events by air, water, or land for your weekend enjoyment!  It’s your choice!!

The 61st annual Chicago Air and Water Show returns this Saturday and Sunday (10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.) to North Avenue Beach (1600 N. Lake Shore Dr.) in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.  This year’s headlining performers are the U.S. Navy Blue Angels (elite group of Navy pilots famous for their diamond formation and precision flying) and the U.S. Army Parachute Team the Golden Knights (precision parachute demonstrations).  Honored special guests are the Red Arrows and the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team who have defended the skies of Britain.  Also featured will be six military aircraft demonstrations as well as civilian performances, historic aircraft, simulated water rescue, and parachute teams.  This show can be viewed along the lakefront from Fullerton to Oak Street. If you prefer being away from the heavy crowds and congestion, head over to Theater on the Lake (2401 N. Lake Shore Dr.) for some of the best, unobstructed views of all the action on the lakefront!

The popular Glenwood Avenue Arts Fest returns to the Rogers Park neighborhood for its 18th year this Saturday and Sunday in the Glenwood Avenue Arts District (north Glenwood Ave. & west Morse Ave.).  This year’s fest will feature more than 120 artists and two outdoor music stages with more than 30 acts.  It also will feature an art fair, kids’ art-making activities, street food and craft beer from local restaurants, and live demonstrations of performance art and art-making!

Now in its 4th year, the Sangria Festival returns to Humboldt Park (3021 W. Division St.) this Saturday and Sunday (12:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.). This festival brings together the art of sangria with 20 flavors hand-crafted by the city’s top mixologists, paired with food bites from locals.  As you sip your sangria in the park, kick back and enjoy some ethnic live music, flamenco and samba dancers, and other cultural entertainment that will take you on a tropical paradise journey!

The 9th annual Pilsen Fest returns to the Pilsen neighborhood (Blue Island Ave. from 18th to 21st Streets) this Saturday and Sunday (12:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.).  It’s a music festival offering an array of genres and styles on three stages with performances from Grammy Award-winning acts to local bands.  Also featured are kids’ workshops, culinary arts, chess, Latinx authors, live painting, crafts, and the Best Tacos in town!

Finally, the Edison Park Fest is in the Edison Park neighborhood at 6755 N. Northwest Highway between Oshkosh and Ottawa Avenues this Saturday and Sunday.  This street festival serves as both a fundraiser and a lively community celebration featuring a craft fair, live entertainment, family performances, various games, a dog show, beer gardens, a parade, and a kids’ zone!  And if you’re in a competing mood, the pie eating contest is on Sunday (6:00 p.m.) in the Bingo Tent!!
