Lakeview: Celebrate the Year of Chicago Theatre with the Paulina Plaza Theatre Pop-Up! On Saturday August 24 from 2-5 pm, catch performances from local theatre companies throughout the afternoon for free. The participating theatres are The Point Theatre Project, Shakespeare’s Motley Crew, The Neighborhood, Storytown Improv, and Eclectic Full Contact Theatre. Lincoln Park: Get ready for the 5th Annual Catalina Wine Mixer! It’s on Thursday August 15 from 6 to 8 pm at Benchmark. Bucktown and Wicker Park: The Wicker Park Advisory Council & Garden Club is partnering with the Chicago Park District to present The 1099 String Quartet. This professional quartet is led by Ryan Loeckel and will perform outside in the park! The performances are on Sunday August 11, 25, and September 8 from 11 am to 12:30 pm. They perform at Wicker Park and it’s free to attend! Come at 10 am and take a tour of the Park and Gardens before the performance. Chicago Loop: It’s almost time for the 41st Annual Chicago Jazz Festival! This fabulous four day event is at the Chicago Cultural Center from August 29 through September 1. Featured performers include Freddy and Lionel Cole, Cecile McLoren Salvant, the Eddie Palmieri Sextet, Christian McBride, Camila Meza and the Nectar Orchestra, George Freeman, Billy Branch, and more. Oak Park: Mark your calendars for the Oak Park Micro Brew Review! On Saturday August 17 from 3-7 pm, head to downtown Oak Park to enjoy brews, bites, and tunes at the largest zero-waste craft beer fest in the Midwest. The festival will raise funds for Seven Generations Ahead, an environmental non-profit working to promote health and sustainable communities. Beers from over 80 of the Midwest’s finest craft breweries will be featured, along with small plates from restaurants serving local and sustainable food.
