Restaurant Review – Fork

Brunch was the name of the game this week! I visited Fork, a gorgeous farm to table restaurant nestled in the Lincoln Square neighborhood. The space is beautiful; with exposed brick walls, long velvet drapes, and lovely teakwood tabletops. It’s much larger than I originally thought, with a main dining area by the bar and another tucked into a back room. We came in on a Saturday morning around 11 and I was glad to have made a reservation- the restaurant was bustling with people. My mouth was watering the second I looked at the menu! We knew we had to try an order of the house made Doughnut Holes. They are prepared specially daily. Today’s preparation was filled with a matcha green tea cream. They were fantastic! I’ve never had matcha before. It has a very intense herbal flavor which was nicely complemented by the rich cream. I love a breakfast hash, so I ordered the Sweet Potato Hash: sweet potatoes, pineapple, and fennel, topped with arugula, two over easy eggs, and a blood orange hollandaise. It comes with a choice of toast; I chose rye. This was delicious. I would never have thought of pineapple in a breakfast hash but it was such a nice addition. The fennel was fresh and beautifully sautéed. The blood orange hollandaise was very unique and rounded out the dish nicely! My mom ordered the Fried Chicken ‘n Waffle, topped with lemon butter, a bacon strip, and Dunek Farm maple syrup. Man oh man was this good! The waffle was out of this world, crispy on the outside and wonderfully soft on the inside. I don’t think I’ve ever had lemon butter before, but it was so good! My mom chose dark meat for her fried chicken and it was cooked perfectly. My dad ordered the Breakfast Melt: house cured bacon and ham, fontina, cheddar, scrambled eggs, arugula, caramelized onions, served on country Italian bread. This was wonderful too! All the flavors worked perfectly together. I can’t wait to come back and try lunch or dinner here!
