Restaurant Review – Southport Grocery

This week took me to a Southport brunch favorite: Southport Grocery. First of all, this place is completely adorable. The patio is charming, with a generous number of tables. The inside of the restaurant is half grocery, half restaurant. There are shelves stocked with preserves, wines, pasta sauces, bitters, soup mixes, spices, chocolate sauce, spreads, drink mixes, beans, hot sauces, and much more. It was such a nice day, we decided to sit outside and were seated right away. The menu is mouthwatering, packed with breakfasts served all day, baked goods from scratch, lunch (also served all day), and kids items. I was immediately overwhelmed; everything looked so delicious! I finally settled on the Southern Omelet, stuffed with house sausage, red onion, and pimento cheese served with a side of red potato mash and a buttermilk biscuit with seasonal preserves. It was absolutely fantastic. The cheese in the omelet made it so creamy and the sausage had just the right amount of spice. I loved the red potato mash, I would never have thought of it as a breakfast item and it was a very pleasant compliment to the meal. My dad ordered the Chicken & Grits: cheesy hazzard-free farm corn grits with a seared boneless chicken thigh, an organic sunny side up egg, and house-made ancho maple hot sauce. These were very tasty! The chicken thigh was cooked perfectly and the grits were wonderfully cheesy and gooey. My mom had the Hash: roasted local potatoes, red onion, mushrooms, peppers, and red barn heritage white cheddar cheese topped with two over easy eggs, brisket, and scallion sour cream. I love a good breakfast hash and this was a really good one. The seasoning was perfect; it gave everything good flavor without overpowering any of the ingredients. The brisket was wonderful! It made me want to try the Brisket & Gravy- I’ll definitely be back for that.

Southport Grocery is open Mondays through Fridays from 7 am to 3 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 am to 4 pm. The kitchen closes 30 minutes prior to closing. Southport Grocery also offers catering services, private parties, a Secret Supper Club, and more. Check it all out on their website!
