THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO – IS IT SPRING YET?

As we’re teased with milder temps, are you wondering if it’s spring yet?  Not quite, but in true Chicago fashion, we will weather the chillier temps with some great activities planned for this weekend!

The coolest event in the city returns Sunday (10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.) to North Avenue Beach (1600 N. Lake Shore Dr.) in the Lincoln Park neighborhood with the Chicago Polar Plunge.  Brave the icy waters of Lake Michigan to support the hard-working, dedicated athletes of Special Olympics Chicago!  Whether you go knee high, waist high, or take the full plunge, you are welcome to join them.  All plungers receive a souvenir t-shirt, free photo downloads, free parking at Lincoln Park Zoo or a free bus for groups of 20 or more, and a warm towel when exiting the water!!  Afterwards, all are invited to the post event “Melt Down Party” (11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.) for complimentary food, a cash bar, music and more!!!  Are you in?

It’s the last of a three-part series presented by ComEd!  Global Connections – Holi takes place Sunday (1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.) in the Aon Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier (600 E. Grand Ave.) in the Streeterville neighborhood.  Come and enjoy the experience of this colorful Hindu festival celebrated in India and Nepal known as the “festival of colors” or the “festival of love.”  Colored powder, for throwing, will be available (1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.) in the Miller Lite Beer Garden while supplies last. Please note that no powder throwing will be allowed indoors.  Holi live performances include Funkadesi, Zeshan B (native Chicagoan), the Surhbi Ensemble (Chicago-based world music group), Mandala Arts, Bollywood Groove (a dance, fitness & entertainment company in the Chicagoland area), and many others!!

Baseball season will be here before you know it and Chicago is one of America’s top sports towns!  So, take the opportunity this weekend to visit the homes of our favorite sports teams on the Chicago Sports tour.  Tours can pick up from Chicago area hotels and other locations at 10:00 a.m. with a professional guide in the comfort of a van.  You will visit Wrigley Field – built in 1914 and home of the Chicago Cubs, the United Center – home of the Chicago Bulls and Blackhawks, Soldier Field – home of the Chicago Bears, and Guaranteed Rate Field – home of the Chicago White Sox for the ultimate photo ops while becoming a local expert on the city’s sports culture!  The tour will end at Harry Caray’s Water Tower with admission to the Chicago Sports Museum!!

Are you having thoughts about renewing, refreshing, and restoring your home this spring?  If so, the Greater Chicago Home and Remodeling Show is in town Saturday (10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) and Sunday (10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.) at the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel & Convention Center (1551 Thoreau Dr.) in Schaumburg.  Everything you need to turn your house into a home — from advice, to inspiration, DIY tips from real home pros, and more — can be found under one roof!  Time to get to that to-do list!!

Finally, if you’re into the “Red Carpet” thing, you can view the 90th Academy Awards and see the stars who will win big at these Chicago Oscars Viewing Parties this Sunday!

BTW, spring is 18 days away!!!
