Restaurant Review – Ann Sather

If you’re a religious reader of this weekly restaurant review, you’ve probably sussed out a couple of things. First, I love to eat (although, that one is pretty obvious). Second, I particularly love breakfast. So, this week’s review will come as no surprise to you. I’ve found a new favorite breakfast spot. And it is marvelous. Now, if you’re a long time Chicago resident, you’ve probably been to an Ann Sather. Or at least you’ve heard of it. This week was my first time at Ann Sather and I loved it! I went to the location on Belmont, just past the Red Line stop (909 W. Belmont). I was feeling especially hungry, so I ordered the Southern Decadence Eggs Benedict. Perfectly poached eggs are served atop sausage patties and hot, buttered biscuits, slathered with country sausage gravy. In addition to this boatload of food, you also get to choose two sides. Sides include: two homemade cinnamon rolls, two hot biscuits and honey, toast, hash browns, fresh fruit, sliced tomatoes, apple sauce, or low fat cottage cheese. I couldn’t help myself- I ordered the two cinnamon rolls. And they were magnificent. They were also gigantic, so it was a good thing I had people to share them with. The Southern Decadence was quite good as well, but again, with such a large portion, there was no way I could finish it on my own. Next time, I’ll either order a smaller entrée or I’ll plan to share.

Ann Sather has two other locations: 3415 N Broadway and 1147 W. Granville. Only the Belmont location carries their Swedish specials. The Swedish Sampler caught my eye: roasted duck with lingonberry glaze, Swedish meatball, Swedish potato sausage, spaetzle, sauerkraut, and Swedish brown beans (all this food for just $15.75!). Food is available for delivery via Doordash as well. Ann Sather also has a top-notch catering menu and team. Each location is available for private catered events as well, for groups of 50 or more. Find more information about their corporate and special event catering here. Hours are Mondays through Fridays from 7 am to 3 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 7 am to 4 pm.
