Restaurant Review – Polygon Thai

Andersonville is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Chicago. There are so many shops, bars, and restaurants to explore; I always find a new place I love. This week, I happened into Polygon Cafe. I came in around noon and there were only a few other tables, always a pleasant surprise. After perusing the menu, I decided to order the lunch special: soup, an appetizer, and an entrée for just $7.50. I couldn’t believe it! What a steal! I started with the Spicy Miso Soup: spicy soy bean broth, soft tofu, seaweed, jalapeño, and green onion. I love miso soup and the addition of the spice from the jalapeño was really refreshing. I know I’ve mentioned here before that I’m a sucker for crab rangoons. So of course, I didn’t have to think twice about my appetizer choice. Polygon adds water chestnut to their rangoons, which gives them a bit of extra crunch and texture. The sweet and sour dipping sauce was also quite tasty. For my entrée, I ordered the Rama with beef. The beef was well cooked, juicy, and tender. It was topped with a creamy peanut sauce (unfortunately, a little too sweet for my liking) and served with steamed broccoli and carrots. While I would probably choose a different entree next time (the Basil Chicken caught my eye), overall, I was very pleased with the lunch special.

Polygon Cafe is located at 5204 N Clark St. Hours are Mondays through Thursdays from 11:30 am to 10:30 pm, Fridays and Saturdays from 11:30 am to 11 pm, and Sundays from 11:30 am to 10 pm. Although it wasn’t very busy when I came in, I can imagine that it fills up in the evenings and on weekends. Polygon does take reservations, as well as delivery and take-out orders. It’s also BYOB, so bring your favorite beverage and check out this delightful spot!
