RESTAURANT REVIEW – BISTRO CAMPAGNE

Located in Lincoln Square at 4518 N. Lincoln Avenue, Bistro Campagne is definitely a true French bistro. According to their site, “the Bistro Campagne staff have strived to capture and express that ephemeral quality found in favorite small neighborhood bistros in Paris and rural France: the sense of welcome, ease, fun conversation & of course excellent food. The setting is a charming blend of prairie-inspired decor and lively Gallic spirit.”  As someone who has been here several times, they definitely live up to their philosophy.

I’ve been following Chef Luke Creagan since his time at Bonsoiree and was so pleased to find his influence at this restaurant. The menu changes seasonally and you really must head in there at least once a quarter. The ingredients tend to be from local organic farmers  in the Midwest or the west coast when farming is not viable here. They are strong supporters of the sustainable, low impact agriculture movement.  And if you’re lucky enough, it’s especially wonderful to be seated outside in the patio garden area during the warmer months.

The menu is varied and filled with really rich French foods. I’m especially partial to the steak tartare, risotto, and steak frites. Although the Boeuf Braisee is quite yummy. The service at this local bistro is pretty spot on. The staff is well versed in the food and wine menus which make for a unique experience. The tables inside are pretty cozy so you’ll want to keep your table talk to a low roar.

The restaurant is very easily accessible and there is street parking. The cost of this location ranges between $30-60 per person not including the cost of wine or drinks. It’s recommended that you  make reservations for this popular local spot.
