OAK PARK

Oak Park and River Forest High School District 200 are anticipating a busy school year to transition back to the tried and true SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) for students preparing for college assessment. In 2010, the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) rallied 8 states, including Illinois, to adopt their standardized tests as the modern assessment for K – 12th graders. This year, however, IL has made the decision for high schoolers to opt out of taking the PARCC tests to mandate that only the SAT will be used statewide. According to OakPark.com, the time that would have been used to administer the PARCC tests will be gladly used to prepare for the SATs instead. PARCC tests are still used through the younger grades but after two years of field testing, there have been no data reports showing that the PARCC tests haven’t reliably revealed anything different from SAT tests which have been used in the U.S. since 1926. How does the old saying go? If it ain’t broke…?
